I consider these things to be a fire hazard . We have had 2 of these things burn out within a short period of time , usually less than a year or 2 and when they burn out they smell up the whole house and you have to open the windows to clean this out .You think your house is on fire when these go . The 3 way flourescent have a very high failure rate. Inhaling burning electronic ballast fumes cannot be good for your health . I have found the reliability to be very poor in these even across the so called name brands like sylvania and GE. Until I see improvement in reliability in these my venture into CFL’s is at an end and its back to standard icandescents. Maybe LED’s will be the answer .
